putan club

A duo from Italy and France, based between Agrigento and Faro. Voices, guitars, bass & wild/heavy computer. The PUTAN CLUB stands for feminism, electricity, electronics & savagery - as if Jeff Mills violated The Nine Inch Nails : groove and high tension. Trance, Dance and Defiance.

The PUTAN PLUB is intended as a resistance cell, characterized by a mode of doing (force actions in various places) very close to the first plots of European partisans during the last world war and today by opponents from all over the world. Resistance is organized by the archaic and immediate means of our century: electric voices and rumors, tanks and counted words, like saying from the cave paintings to the most daring conceptualism, from avant-rock to contemporary classical music, metal or more brutal techno/house, from the kiss on the mouth to the kick in the ass ...

The PUTAN CLUB does not belong to any church (rock, techno, jazz, avant, punk, ethno or what-the-fuck-ever) but claims the right to be all that, even more. And proved it, from Laâyoune to Beijing. Finally, the PUTAN CLUB collaborates regularly with other demons such as Lydia Lunch, Eugene S. Robinson or Denis Lavant.

With an average of more than 150 concerts a year & over 1500 concerts since its creation, regularly on Tour in Europe, China, Turkey, Africa, Oceania, Americas, Asia and Central Asia as well as part of numerous festivals as Bazant Pohoda (SK), Amplifest (PT), Moers (D), Tomorrow Fest (Shenzhen, RPC), Tallinn Music Week (ES), Milhoes ( PT), Croisements festival (Beijing, RPC),  Pikipop (FIN), the PUTAN CLUB is iconoclastic, violent, groovy and and resolutely feminist-revolutionary.

"The Putan Club is not only listened to : you have to  frequente it."  MONDO SONORO (E)  - Extracts videos live, Warsaw.

« How did we miss this? A band is taking the roof off the venue. Like a crush collusion between Young Gods, NIN, and even the early Ants when things get tribal with their more chanting ethno vocals and big rhymes, Putan Club have an astonishing and original sound and the live show is enormous. The audience is transfixed by the Italian/French two-piece who are so perfect and so stunning that you stand there open-mouthed at their brilliance. Putan Club are a stunning revelation. A medusa curls haired woman dealing bass filth with a perfect groove and a bequiffed man on guitar twitching with expectation. They then literally just explode. Their drum machine takes up the rhythm chores and the seering catchy riffs are delivered with a noisenik venom and raw power. There is the clank and grind of industrial and the forward vision of post-punk and an almighty groove of death disco which bites into raw Africa then crunch into primal funk. They are the best band that I should have heard of. The band are now an LTW priority that you must listen to. Now !!! »  John Robb - LOUDER THAN WAR (UK)

"...Every Putan Club gig is a kick in the face of modern music and its industry. ...They are defiant not because it’s cool to do so, but because that is what they are at their core : non-conformists... Insubordination : that is Putan Club..."   MUSIC & RIOTS MAGAZINE (UK)

"Putan Club, a duo from Italy and France are the last act of the night and HOLY SHIT do they blow the top off the Hard Club for Amplifest 2022 (P). Playing in the middle of the room, they create an immersive and interactive experience for the crowd who grow wilder and fill the space as the bassist and guitarist seductively fill the space while weaving in and out of amplifesters, letting out tribal whoops and howls to a thumping beat lit by a sultry, hellish lighting. Self-described as ElectronicIndustrialAvantRockTechnoWorldSauvagerie and really, it makes perfect sense by the culmination of their set which has resulted in an unexpected invigorating metaphorical orgy complete with bleeding ears and shell shock which results in an immediate stampede to the merch stand."  Amplifest 2022. Review from ASTRAL NOIZE (UK). Thanks Abi Coulson and Darktones Photography .

"...The Putan Club exists precisely to cross borders, challenge limits, stir consciences, overthrow dogmas, prejudices and formatting, developing during each concert a manifesto of irreverence and libertinism which involves -literally- the public in a turmoil to which it is difficult to remain indifferent.(....) This Franco-Italian duo but from and to the whole world, forges what goes through their heads, from rock to techno, from jazz to avant-punk and world music, in a viral and very contagious experience that dared to defy the resistance of the participants of a long and intense festival day.And despite everything, the public did not stop making the revolution in a performance that invites and incites just that. It was impossible to find a better closing concert for this second day of Amplifest 2022..."  LOUD!  MAGAZINE (Portugal, review Amplifest Festival 2022)

...we are more excited after another performance of the Putan Club (...) Each concert represents a new opportunity to establish passionate dialogues. (...) Band in the middle of the public, public in the middle of the band - down with the hierarchies but euphoria of an irreverent informality - always in the company of the traditional (but strongly subversive) cauldron of explosive and frenetic sounds: avant-rock , industrial, techno, ethno and whatever else you want to add - the recipe is as anarchic as they are. The result ? An epic ritual atmosphere, the ultimate celebration of a utopian harmony that the world has never succeeded in establishing, but which this fantastic duo seems to constantly bring together. Here, everyone danced, celebrated and experienced the wild…saying a better goodbye was impossible." TRESHOLD MAGAZINE (Amplifest 2022, P)

"Now, with the second day of the festival about to close we can only say that those who haven't done themselves the favor of hearing PUTAN CLUB don't know what they've missed. It was an hour and peaks of techno, industrial, experimental jazz, metal of all cylinders and even aromas of world music (among many others), a highly flammable and energetic combination, therefore draining completely the strength. Judging by the audience, all of them moving around the room as the duo pierced through the dense hearts of the audience, the most entertaining concert award, fictitious but necessary for emphasis, found an undisputed winner."  WAV MAGAZINE

Still stunned by the PUTAN CLUB jig yesterday. Kick in the trunk or like at 44 years old and hundreds of gigs in the loin you still manage to magically surprise yourself." IRREVERSIVEL

Gianna Greco (I) : bass, vox, effects, computer, electronics

François R. Cambuzat (F) : guitars, vox, computer, electronics

Nota Bene : the Putan Club is obviously not a punk band, but takes everything it needs: avant, rock, techno, ethno, jazz, metal, classical...
The Putan Club is a test bench .

 ... hey baby, it's subversive ...

gianna greco

Gianna Greco's teenage years, and her early career as a musician in the deep south of Italy were accompanied early on by a merry disgust for the two-headed Hydra of a society in which she lived. A parasitic system founded for the benefit of a privileged class on one side, and on the other the male prerogative which declared one half of humanity free and autonomous while reducing the other half to slavery. A one-sex society. A man's world. Gianna also became conscious early on of the triple nature of female slavery: ignorance, capitalism, and men.

In 2011 the Tunisian revolution gave her reason for optimism, so at the end of February she travelled to Tunisi. She witnessed at first hand the excitement surrounding the 'High Commission for the fulfillment of revolutionary goals, political reform, and democratic transition'. Gianna Greco was stunned by the strength of Tunisian women and struck by personal encounters.

Eventually, disgusted at the outcome of this 'highest organ' and of the Ennahda movement's embrace of ultra-liberal economics which was followed by a series of dubious governments, the twenty-two year old Gianna Greco returned to Europe and took up arms. She had the inside of her left thigh tattooed with a quote by Pier Paolo Pasolini; "the world is becoming corrupted by a wellbeing made up of selfishness, stupidity, superficiality, gossip, moralizing, coercion, and conformity: any form of participation in this corruption is, today, an act of fascism", and in 2013, after a series of unsatisfying experiences, she founded PUTAN CLUB, a cell for artistic activism founded on ideals of levity, swiftness, proletarianism, atheism, and iconoclasm. And proudly refused to have any involvement with agents or the press.

Gianna now lives between Pamir, France, and Argentina, and continues to follow only that which gives her a thrill.

"Being an artist is above all an existential choice: either one gives voice to the conservative structure of society, accepting the role
of a robot controlled by the powers that be, or one can take part in the progressive elements of society and attempt to establish a revolutionary relationship between art and life." - Gian Maria Volontè

françois r. cambuzat

François R. Cambuzat (F) founded The Kim Squad & Dinah Shore Headbangers, il Gran Teatro Amaro, la République du Sauvage, l'Enfance Rouge, the Trans-Aeolian Transmission, the Machine Rouge, l'Ifriqiyya Electrique and other diseases. He performed over 5000 concerts all over the planet. The pandemic is clickable here.

First of all bass player then saxophonist (resident in Bedford Stuyvesant, at seventeen he played with Dizzy Gillespie at the New York ‘s Blue Note), his life was then saved from the American poverty by the rock 'n' roll by interviewing Iggy Pop and so becoming independent journalist for diverse medias, getting then enough money allowing him to fuck away from the States.

Of short return in France, he kept on avoiding it. François R. moved to London, Rome, Berlin, Hamburg, Tunis, Brussells, Lecce, and so on.... Among others, François R. did invite and create with Lotfi Bouchnak, Eugene S. Robinson, the National Orchestra of the Rachidya, Luciano Berio, Emanuele Luzzati, Lydia Lunch and Denis Lavant.

François R. Cambuzat is the artistic director of the Trasporti Marittimi Festival.
